Russian container market in January to June 2007

Исследования | Август 25, 2007, 23:00

According to a research by InfraNews, the first six months of 2007 saw Russian ports handle 36 million tonnes of general cargoes. The largest container terminal in Russia is located in the Russian Northwest and this region boasts the greatest potential in the industry: Its share in the Russian general cargoes turnover is 47 percent, which means the region’s ports could potentially attract 2.6 million TEU. However, these ports lack sufficient facilities to handle such volumes: In the first half of the year, ports in Russia’ Northwest handled just  nder 1 million TEU, but already they are short on capacities; their terminals are overloaded.

An analysis of the development of the container industry in the country also shows an increased activity of state bodes in the market. State services of various levels pay close attention to the container market’s infrastructure and logistics. Still, this scrutiny does little to help stevedores solve their main problem: finding the necessary facilities for warehousing and storage of cargoes in St.Petersburg.

We will be happy to answer any questions and give additional information about this research.
